Barcelona have enjoyed a decent start to the new season, winning two of their first three games, and drawing the other. The reigning champions are currently sitting fourth in the LaLiga table, just two points behind league leaders Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, the Catalans are interested in Nottingham Forest strongman Murillo. Elsewhere, a Spanish midfielder is ready to fight for his place under Hansi Flick.
On that note, let's look at the major Barcelona transfer stories from September 4, 2025.
Barcelona eyeing Murillo
Barcelona have set their sights on Murillo, according to Caught Offside. The Brazilian has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League since arriving at Nottingham Forest in 2023.
The left-footed defender has adapted very well to the rigours of the Premier League, and his efforts have already turned heads at Camp Nou. The Catalans are looking for a new face to replace Inigo Martinez, who left this summer to move to Al-Nassr.
The LaLiga giants have identified Murillo as the perfect candidate for the job. However, Barcelona could face competition from Arsenal in the race. The Gunners also want a left-footed center back to provide cover for Gabriel Magalhaes and have zeroed in on his countryman.
Marc Casado ready to fight for his place
Marc Casado is ready compete for a starting place under Hansi Flick after a summer of speculation, according to SPORT. The Spanish midfielder fell out of favour at Barcelona in the second half of last season.
The Catalans have a healthy set of midfielders in their roster, and Casado was heavily linked with an exit this summer. There were reports of interest from the Premier League as well as Serie A.
It was also suggested that the LaLiga giants could let him go to address their poor finances. However, the 22-year-old ended up staying, with Flick apparently playing a key role in the decision. Casado is now determined to wrestle his way back into the German's starting XI.
Robert Lewandowski opens up on his situation at Camp Nou
Robert Lewandowski is not concerned by his slow start to the new season at Camp Nou. The Polish striker was outstanding for Barcelona last campaign, scoring 42 goals from 52 games to help them clinch a domestic treble.
However, Lewandowski is yet to start a game this season, with both of his appearances coming off the bench. The 37-year-old's contract expires in less than 12 months, further adding to speculation regarding his future.
Speaking recently, as cited by SPORT, Lewandowski insisted that he is taking a different approach to the new campaign.
“This year I personally face my situation differently: I don’t look so much at the number of minutes I have and I will have conversations during the season. I don’t think I have to play by decree either: we have a squad that allows us to rotate and that’s important. Sometimes it’s more important to focus on the quality of the minutes than on the quantity,” said Lewandowski.
Lewandowski missed Barcelona's 3-0 win over Mallorca on opening day of the season with a muscle injury.
