Barcelona next face Valencia at home on September 14 in LaLiga. Hansi Flick's team have won two of their opening three games this season, while the other ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, the Catalans have ended ties with a Spanish midfielder. Elsewhere, the LaLiga champions are yet to start talks with Eric Garcia regarding a new deal.
On that note, let's look at the major Barcelona transfer stories from September 6, 2025.
Barcelona terminate contract of Oriol Romeu
Barcelona have parted ways with Oriol Romeu, the club have announced. The Spanish midfielder spent last season on loan at Girona and is no longer part of Hansi Flick's plans.
Romeu wasn't included in the pre-season tour as well as the matchday squad so far. With the German spoilt for choice in midfield, the Catalans were keen to remove him from their wage bill.
Signed initially to replace Sergio Busquest, the 33-year-old hasn't lived up to the billing at Camp Nou. The Catalans have now reached an agreement to terminate his contract, which was due to expire in 2026.
Sharing a statement on their website, the Spanish champions thanked Romeu for his efforts.
“FC Barcelona and first-team player Oriol Romeu have agreed to terminate his contract with the Club within the transfer window. FC Barcelona would like to thank Oriol Romeu for his professionalism, commitment, and dedication, and wishes him the best of luck and success in the future.”
It is believed that the Catalans have agreed to cover part of Romeu's remaining wages.
Catalans yet to initiate Eric Garcia renewal talks
Barcelona haven't initiated Eric Garcia's renewal process so far, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Spanish defender's contract runs out at the end of this season and his future now remains uncertain.
Garcia's versatility made him a key player for Hansi Flick last season. The 24-year-old operated at right-back, center back and even as a defensive midfielder as the Catalans clinched a domestic treble.
Garcia was linked with an exit from Camp Nou over the summer, but the German manager was keen to have him around. With the player also eager to stay, a move never materialized.
It was believed that the Spaniard will be handed a new deal, but that hasn't happened so far. Inigo Martinez's departure has further strengthened his position under Flick. Meanwhile, the LaLiga champions are convinced that contract talks will not pose any problem, as the player has no plans to leave.
Frenkie de Jong set for fresh contract discussions
Barcelona are all set to resume contract renewal discussions with Frenkie de Jong after the international break, according to SPORT. The Dutch manager emerged as a cital cog under Hansi Flick in the second half of last season.
The German manager now considers De Jong as a cornerstone of his project. However, with his contract running out in under 12 months, the 28-year-old is staring at an uncertain future.
The Catalans, however, have no plans to let him go and have already stepped up their efforts. Recent talks with De Jong's camp have progressed well, and the plan is to tie him down to a new deal until 2029.
