Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believes that Benjamin Sesko needs time to find his feet at Old Trafford. The Slovenian striker joined the English giants from RB Leipzig this month for a reported £73.7m fee.
Sesko was in fine form for the Bundesliga side last season, registering 21 goals and six assists from 45 games across competitions. The 22-year-old missed pre-season with the Red Devils, and Amorim has been using him cautiously so far.
Sesko came off the bench for Manchester United's games against Arsenal and Fulham, amassing 62 minutes of first team football in total so far. The Slovenian is expected to eventually feature in a new-look attack for the Red Devils alongside Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Speaking to the press after Sunday's game, Amorim added that Sesko is still coming to terms with the pace of the Premier League.
“I think he needs time. It's not easy sometimes when you are on the bench and you get into the game and the game is really fast. I think he is understanding that the game is faster than the Bundesliga,” said Amorim.
He continued:
“But he's fighting. He had some good connections with his team-mates. I felt that when he was on the pitch, he wasn’t on in our best moment. That can change the way you see a player. I am very happy as you can see his effort. We need to help him, we need to be in a better moment to help him.”
Benjamin Sesko could earn his first start for Manchester United in the midweek EPL Cup Second Round tie against Grimsby Town. Read the Match Review for the game here.
Will Manchester United sign Senne Lammens this summer?
Manchester United are close to securing the services of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens this summer, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 23-year-old is largely considered Thibaut Courtois' heir in the Belgian national team.
In his column for GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist added that a move is likely to be completed before deadline day.
"The negotiations are at a very advanced stage, with an agreement already in place with the goalkeeper. Lammens has accepted a long-term deal at Old Trafford, with a salary way lower than the rumoured request of Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma or the one of Martinez, which probably explains why Manchester United didn’t proceed with either of those two deals so far," wrote Romano.
He continued:
"Lammens wants the move to Manchester United and that’s the reason why he didn’t make the starting line-up for Royal Antwerp this weekend. What happens next? Talks between the two clubs are proceeding fast, with initial discussions around €17m plus add-ons to reach a €20m package, but Royal Antwerp want €25m (£22m) in order to get the deal done.
He concluded:
"There is not a big gap in valuation, especially with Lammens keen on joining Ruben Amorim's Red Devils and making his dream move happen. All parties anticipate an agreement to happen before deadline day."
Lammens could be a long-term replacement for Andre Onana at Manchester United.
