Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believes that his team will have to manage the game better following the 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday, August 24, in the Premier League. The Red Devils took the lead in the 58th minute after Rodrigo Muniz scored an unfortunate own goal.

However, the Cottagers got back into the game through Emile Smith Rowe's 73rd-minute strike. Despite a late push, Manchester United had to share points with the London side.

Speaking after the draw, Amorim added that it was easy for Fulham to mark his team.

“It’s normal [that Fulham are dangerous from corners]. I think we tried to press high and, after one or two times, we need to understand that sometimes we need to manage the game, to wait for the opponent. That was the option of Fulham and sometimes we push the ball to the side too soon,” said Amorim.

He continued:

“It was quite easy for the opponent to mark us and we wanted to press all of the time. We wanted to do that but sometimes we have to be better in that moment, understand the game, try to drop a little bit and start the pressure, so they had more space than us when they were attacking.”

Manchester United were awarded a penalty, via VAR, in the first half after Calvin Bassey fouled Mason Mount in the box. However, Bruno Fernandes missed the resulting spot kick.

How many games has Ruben Amorim won since taking charge of Manchester United?

Ruben Amorim's record with Manchester United does not make for pleasant reading. The Portuguese head coach took charge at Old Trafford in November last year as Erik ten Hag's replacement.

However, Amorim has failed to turn the Red Devils' fortunes around so far. He has been in charge for 44 games, winning 16 and losing 17. Interestingly, his team have managed just seven wins in 29 games in the Premier League to date.

Manchester United finished 15th in the league table last season, and also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. The club hierarchy have backed the Portuguese head coach over the summer, adding Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon to their roster.

The Red Devils showed promise against Arsenal in the opening game of the season, but still lost the game. The draw against Fulham has now further piled the pressure on Amorim.
