Long Drive from Delhi To Jaipur
The Delhi-Jaipur road trip turned out to be a fantastic experience. The change of scenary along the journey helped me realize that our country is so diverse, and so beautiful still. India's diversity is what makes her beautiful. It is what makes her great.
The Thinking Me

We recently went on a long vacation to the western part of India.
It was December, my seven-year-old son Messi had a week-long winter vacation and our minds were already on the road. We traveled from Guwahati to New Delhi via the Rajdhani Express.

After touching down in New Delhi Railway Station on the second day of our vacation, we wasted little time to head towards our destination, Jaipur.
I had been in the Capital City of India couple of times before, but I had never traveled to the west. This journey marked the start of a new phase of my wanderlust, opening up scenes and scenarios that I wasn't accustomed to.
Our driver was a chirpy man called Sanjay, with a penchant for social media videos.
Delhi to Jaipur on Road
One of the main ingredients of a good road trip is a good road, although the amount of traffic must also be brought into consideration. However, a road in perfect condition makes for a pleasant and comfortable journey.
As I entered unchartered territories, I must admit I was a little concerned about the condition of the road. But my fears soon subsided, because the road from Delhi to Jaipur is in pristine condition.
The journey was supposed to take just over five hours, but ended up longer than usual because we took a couple of breaks. The first arrived around two hours into our journey, when we stopped at Basant Dhaba for lunch.
Another vital ingredient of a good road trip is good food
Lunch at Basant Dhaba

The first thing Messi noticed at Basant Dhaba was the life size tractor waiting for him.
There was also a kids play area, however, it was undergoing maintenance, much to Messi's disappointment. Nevertheless, the charms of the bright-red tractor was enough to brighten my seven-year-old's mood.
We went inside the spacious eatery, where one is likely to spoilt for choice. There separate stalls for snacks and sweets, but since we were famished, we went straight to the main course.
We ordered Veg Thalis and while the food was being prepared, Messi went out to explore the tractor. Basant Dhaba also has clean toilets for travelers, which is also a big plus.

After multiple meals on board the Rajdhani Express, we wanted a taste of the local flavour, and Basant Dhaba didn't disappoint. The Tandori Roti were soft, the Tadka was favourful and even the mixed veg was a delight.
Messi, of course, was delighted that there was padad available.
There are a lot more options available for the foodies, provided that you have more time than we did. There's also a toy store adjacent to the Dhaba, but we found the toys to be a little too pricey, and much to Messi's disappointment, didn't buy anything.
However, my seven-year-old didn't have a frown on his face for too long, especially thanks to the tractor outside. We sat on it for a while, playing pretend games until it was time to leave.
The Changing Landscape
With our tummies full and out hearts content, we resumed our journey, watching the landscape change outside the window. The land became rugged, the fauna changed.
We had never been to this part of the country before and it was fascinating. It was different from what we, born and brought up in the greeneries of Eastern India, have been accustomed to.
But there was colour too! We crossed multiple poppy plantations, where the flash of bright yellow added a different dimension to the surroundings.

There's a beauty in the tough terrain too, with its majestic hills in the distance. The setting sun soon painted the distant mountains a royal golden colour, and one by one, the hills came closer. The road zigzagged through a serious of dry hillocks, which were mostly sands and stones with few shrubs and bushes sprinkled in between.
We caught sight of beautiful temples at the top of the hills, and isolated houses, where life, one can understand, must be difficult.

Arriving in Jaipur
It was almost dusk when our cab arrived at Jaipur. We sped through the Pink City before arriving at our destination, Hotel Krishna Palace.

Hotel Krishna Palace is located at Durga Marg, Bani Park, Jaipur. It is an impressive facility with comfortable rooms, a lip-smacking kitchen, and helpful staff. We stayed for two days and had a wonderful time.
