Manchester United are putting together final preparations ahead of their upcoming EFL Cup Second Round tie against Grimsby Town on Wednesday, August 27. Ruben Amorim's team arrive at the game on the back of their disappointing 1-1 draw against Fulham over the weekend.

Meanwhile, two European clubs have set their sights on a Red Devils forward. Elsewhere, Kobbie Mainoo is considering an exit from Old Trafford.

On that note, let's look at the major Manchester United transfer stories from August 26, 2025.

PSV Eindhoven and Napoli want Joshua Zirkzee

PSV Eindhoven and Napoli are ready to give Joshua Zirkzee an escape route from Manchester United, according to Caught Offside. The Dutch forward's future at Old Trafford is up in the air following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig this summer.

Zirkzee joined from Bologna last year after an impressive campaign in Serie A. However, the 23-year-old failed to live up to expectations with the Premier League giants, managing just seven goals from 49 games last season.

Zirkzee has been an unused substitute in the first two games of the season for the Red Devils. Ruben Amorim has publicly backed the player, insisting that the Dutchman is part of his plans.

However, with a fresh attack trident at their disposal, Zirzkee remains linked with an exit from Manchester United. PSV are looking for a new striker following Alassane Plea's long-term injury and have the Dutchman on their agenda. Meanwhile, Napoli are also planning to take the player back to the Serie A to cover for the injured Romelu Lukaku.

Kobbie Mainoo considering exit from Old Trafford

Kobbie Mainoo is ready to leave Manchester United in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to talkSPORT. The Englishman exploded into the scene in the 2023-24 campaign under former manager Erik ten Hag.

However, Mainoo has seen his importance diminish following Ruben Amorim's arrival in November last year. The 20-year-old wason the bench for the first two games of the season, and didn't register any minutes, further adding to speculation regarding his future.

It now appears that Mainoo is willing to end his stay at Old Trafford if a suitable offer arrives in the coming days. He is under contract with the Red Devils until 2027 and is yet to sign an extension.

Alejandro Garnacho likely to leave Manchester United this week

Alejandro Garnacho could join Chelsea this week, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Blues have been hot on the heels of the Argentine for quite some time, and the player is expected to leave Manchester United this summer.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano added that the London giants are confident of completing a deal in the coming days.

“Chelsea expect 100% that Alejandro Garnacho deal to happen. I fully think we’ll have a 'here we go' this week. There were some rumours to include Tyrique George as part of the conversation between Manchester United and Chelsea. This option was already stopped a few weeks ago so at the moment Tyrique George is not part of those conversations as of now,” said Romano.

Garnacho had a fallout with Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final, and is no longer part of the Portuguese head coach's plans.
