Manchester United are putting together final preparations ahead of their Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday, August 30, at Old Trafford. Ruben Amorim's team arrive at the fixture on the back of the disappointing exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Grimsby Town in midweek.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have set their asking price for an English midfielder. Elsewhere, the Premier League giants are preparing for life after Amorim.
On that note, let's look at the major Manchester United transfer stories from August 29, 2025.
Manchester United want £45m for Kobbie Mainoo
Manchester United want £45m to part ways with Kobbie Mainoo this summer, according to The Athletic. The English midfielder's future remains subject to speculation after failing to cement a place under Ruben Amorim.
Mainoo has seen his stocks plummet following the departure of former manager Erik ten Hag. Once considered the new core of the Red Devils' future plans, the 20-year-old's role has diminished under Amorim.
Mainoo's only appearance in the first three games of this season was in the EFL Cup Second Round defeat to Grimsby Town. While the Englishman had a decent outing and played the entire game, he could drop to the bench once again this weekend against Burnley.
Mainoo was briefly courted by Chelsea in January this year, but the Blues reportedly balked at Manchester United's £70m asking price. However, it now appears that the youngster is no longer indispensable at Old Trafford and the club are willing to let him leave for a reduced fee. Recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are eyeing him with interest, while Bayern Munich have been previously linked with the player as well.
Red Devils identify Ruben Amorim replacements
Manchester United have drawn up a two-man shortlist to replace Ruben Amorim, according to Caught Offside. The Portuguese head coach has endured a difficult time since taking charge at Old Trafford in November last year, finishing 15th in the league and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite some heavy investments in attack this summer, the Red Devils have registered an underwhelming start to the new campaign as well. Two defeats, including against a fourth-tier team for the first time in their history, and a draw, from the opening three games have forced INEOS into action.
It is now believed that Manchester United have identified Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner as options to replace Amorim. Both managers have been quite impressive in the Premier League so far.
Glasner is the favorite for the job, having won the FA Cup last year and the Community Shield at the start of the season. He is apparently open to the move as well.
Chelsea agree Alejandro Garnacho move
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Alejandro Garnacho for around £40m this summer, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Argentine is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and has been linked with the Blues all summer.
The London giants were in talks with the Red Devils for a while and a breakthrough has now been reached. Chelsea will pay around £40m for the 21-year-old, who will sign a seven-year deal with the club.
