Manchester United travel to Blundell Park on Wednesday, August 27, to face Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup Second Round. The Red Devils will lock horns with the Mariners for the first time since 1948.

Ruben Amorim's team arrive at the back of the disappointing 1-1 draw against Fulham. The Portuguese head coach will now be eager to pick up his first win of the new season and also avoid an embarrassing cup exit.

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United will have the same squad available for the EFL Cup tie. Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined with injuries, and won't be in the mix for the game.

Amorim could make use of the occasion to test some of his fringe players, so one can expect quite a few changes in the starting XI. Andre Onana is pushing to reclaim his No. 1 spot and could be selected between the sticks as well.

Meanwhile, new signing Benjamin Sesko could earn his first start for the Red Devils after completing a move from RB Leipzig earlier this month. The Slovenian came off the bench against both Arsenal and Fulham.

Opposition Form

Grimsby Town arrive at the game in tremendous form. The Mariners are unbeaten in six games in the new season and could pose a tough test for Ruben Amorim's side.

David Artell's team have scored the joint most goals in League Two and have picked up 11 points from five games. Interestingly, they have also won all three games at Blundell Park this season. For context, Manchester United have just two wins in their last 13 away games.

Predicted Starting XI

While Ruben Amorim could be tempted to field a weakened side for the tie, he will be aware of the consequences of a shock defeat. As such, the Portuguese is likely to mix his options, and ensure that he has enough quality to secure a win.

Onana could return in goal, while the likes of Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven could be given valuable minutes. Diego Leon could earn his debut for Manchester United as well.

With Bruno Fernandes expected to play in a more advanced position, Kobbie Mainoo could finally make an appearance this season. Benjamin Sesko is also expected to secure his first start for the Red Devils.

Predicted Starting XI: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Heaven; Dalot, Mainoo, Ugarte, Leon; Bruno, Sesko, Cunha.
