Thoughts on the Wife's Birthday

Birthdays are meant to be enjoyed. It’s not just that you are growing older, which, if you ask me, is an achievement in itself. Birthdays are also a time to celebrate your life, to pause and look back and see what a wonderful journey you are on.

The Thinking Me

The most important day in the life of a husband is the day his wife was born. Of course, that is how she wants him to think.

I wasn’t around to celebrate when Sumita arrived on the planet on this day many years ago. The year was…. Well, yeah, I don’t have a death wish!

Instead, I try my best to make this special day all the more memorable for her. I often try to point out that I am the most important gift she could expect in life, although her response isn’t worth mentioning in this blog.

However, there’s a little Event Manager in our household who appears even more excited than his mother for September 12. In the buildup to this special day, Messi, our seven-year-old, prepared a list of prerequisites in his Grandmother’s diary, which makes for an interesting read.

The first item on the list is Cake.

Chocolate or Vanilla? He asks me and without waiting for a response, notes Chocolate Cake. There are multiple other items on his itinerary, which, unsurprisingly, also includes a Toy Car.

Birthdays are Special

But of course, Birthdays are meant to be enjoyed. It’s not just that you are growing older, which, if you ask me, is an achievement in itself. Birthdays are also a time to celebrate your life, to pause and look back and see what a wonderful journey you are on. You are never the same person you were a year ago, no matter the circumstances and that calls for a toast.

And so today, this 12th day of September, we celebrate one of the most important days in the Pandit Household. We cheer for the Lady who holds the place together and helps the rest of us do our thing.

There’s no denying that her presence has added multiple stars to my mundane sky. We fight, we make up, we hustle and we dream. As I grow old, and she ages gracefully, we lean onto each other more than ever.

Happy Birthday, Sumita.

And remember, no matter how much older you get, I will always love you.
