Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has expressed his delight after scoring his first goal at Old Trafford. The Cameroonian joined the Red Devils this summer from Brentford in a reported £65m deal.
During his unveiling, Mbeumo revealed that he had supported the Premier League giants while growing up. The 26-year-old started the season on a good note against Arsenal, and was also among the better players against Fulham.
However, Mbeumo's first goal for Manchester United came off the bench at Blundell Park, in the disappointing EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town last week. The Cameroonian was reinstated in the starting XI against Burnley on Saturday, and gave fans another reason to chant his name.
The Red Devils went ahead in the game thanks to a Josh Cullen own goal, but the away side equalised through Lyle Foster in the 55th minute. However, Mbeumo sent his team ahead once again just over a minute later, and was a bundle of emotion after the goal.
Manchester United eventually won 3-2, with Bruno Fernandes scoring an injury-time penalty to seal all three points. In the process, the Red Devils picked up their first win of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking after the game to MUTV, Mbeumo said that the team got the reward for not giving up.
"Yeah, I feel very good. I think today was really important that we could win, and yeah, obviously I'm really happy to score my first goal here. We kept going in the game and, at the end, we got the reward," said Mbeumo.
Mbeumo registered three shots against Burnley, two of which were on target. The Cameroonian created five chances, including one big chance, which unfortunately was missed by Amad.
What did Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim say about Bryan Mbeumo?
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has lavished praise on Bryan Mbeumo after the win against Fulham. Speaking to the press, the Portuguese added that the Cameroonian's ability to stretch the opposition helps his team.
"It was impressive the way he stretched the team. The quality that he has in the first touch, and you feel that we are a different team because when we win the ball, we have one guy stretching the team," said Amorim.
Manchester United next face Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday, September 14, in the Premier League.
