Kobbie Mainoo is not in talks to leave Manchester United at the moment, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. Recent reports have suggested that the English midfielder could be considering his future after failing to get minutes this season.

Mainoo rose through the ranks at Old Trafford and is highly regarded in the European circuit. However, the 20-year-old was an unused substitute against both Arsenal and Fulham, adding to speculation regarding his future.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, however, Romano added that the Red Devils will hold talks with Mainoo very soon to clear his future.

"Let me tell you, the situation will be clearer in the next 24, maximum 48 hours. There will be conversations, Manchester United will discuss with Kobbie Mainoo to understand the situation. Kobbie was disappointed after the last game but it doesn't mean Kobbie Mainoo is 100% leaving Manchester United," said Romano.

He continued:

"So, we have to wait to see how these conversations go and then we will understand more. So let's wait, but at the moment I can guarantee, that of Tuesday night there are no negotiations with Manchester United and any club for Kobbie Mainoo. Nothing is advanced, nothing is concrete at this stage. We have to follow the situation until the very end but at the stage nothing imminent."

Mainoo is under contract until 2027 and was linked with Chelsea earlier this year.

Will Kobbie Mainoo start for Manchester United against Grimsby Town?

Kobbie Mainoo could be in line for his first start of the season against Grimsby Town on Wednesday, August 27, in the EFL Cup Second Round tie. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Ruben Amorim has already hinted that he could make multiple changes for the game.

“We have three games this week, we have quality players and we have to rotate to try to win every game,” said Amorim.

Interestingly, there have been concerns that Kobbie may not be a good fit in Amorim's 3-4-3 system. The Portuguese head coach, however, has previously stated that he has big plans for the young midfielder, who has also been deployed in the No. 10 position last season.

However, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo roped in over the summer, Mainoo could struggle for chances higher up on the pitch. Meanwhile, Amorim has recently stated that the Englishman is competing with Bruno Fernandes for a place in Manchester United's midfield.
